The Last Six Tracks Played at Space

It was a poignant moment for the thousands of people who turned out to pay their final respects to Pepe Rosello and the monument to clubbing culture that he built, Space Ibiza. The son of San Antonio, shoulder to shoulder with his right hand man of many decades, Carl Cox,  walked onto the stage of his beloved Space for the final time to thank the people who helped make Space Ibiza great and his parting words to his faithful congregation were “Thank you very much to all of you. Your emotions and our love will remain here forever” People had flown in from all over the World just to be there for the Closing party and it was a night that will go down in the annals of clubbing history. Space was always about the music and it is fitting that we record the last six tracks that Carl Cox played at the Club, which now lays dormant waiting for a new lease of life to be given it.

#6 Mory Kante – Yeke Yeke (Hardfloor Mix)

This track was originally released in 1987 a year after Space opened by Guinean singer Mory Kante becoming the first African single to sell over 1 million copies. Selected was the popular Hardfloor remix which was released in 1997 the year that Manumission opened at Ku now Privilege, a defining year for Ibiza clubland. It was the oldest track in Carls final playlist.

#5 Layo and Bushwacka – Love Story (Matt Samuels Mix)

This was a huge hit on the famous Space terrace back when the club was open for 24 hours. It was originally released in 2002 during the early years of the infulencial We Love era and a much different vibe to the vocal version that was released the following year. Below is the Matt Samuels edit that was played on the night.

#4 Armand Van Helden - You Don't Know Me

A true Ibiza classic and the only track in the final six that was deemed good enough to play in its original version. Released in 1998 at the peak of the Space terrace popularity during the Home residency and at the height of Van Hendans reign in Europe.

#3 Kings of Tomorrow - Finally (Danny Tenaglia Return To Paradise Mix)

It is fitting that a Danny Tenaglia remix was selected in the final playlist. A huge favourite at Space, Tenaglia´s six hour plus sets were legendary. Finally by Sandy Rivera was released on Defected records in 2000 and was a huge terrace tune during the We Love dynasty.

#2 Cee Cee Peniston - Finally (12'' Choice Mix)

Released in 1991 during the golden House era in Ibiza, Finally was a track always associated with Carl Cox when he played the terrace. The 12 “ Choice mix was released on the B side of the original version and became a Space anthem.

#1 Angie Stone - Wish I Didn't Miss You (PoundBoys Edit)

Maybe chosen for its fitting title more than a Space classic, Angie Stone's Gay anthem was released on June 24 2002. It will be recorded in the history books as the track that brought the curtain down on the legendary Space Club. Soon after the amps went cold and people were left only with cherished memories to hold.
